Understanding Low Arched and Flat Feet

Low-arched and flat feet are quite common, and these foot types travel quite differently from normal or high-arched feet. As the foot strikes the ground , the arch flattens, causing the ankle to roll inward, and the heel to roll outward. The collapsing of the arch can place excessive stress on the ligaments and tendons that keep the 26 bones of your feet in place. As the arch flattens the lower leg bones (tibia & fibula) rotate inward, placing stress on the knee, hip and low back joints.

A low-arched foot must also work harder to get from point "A" to point "B". We have a simple test that proves this in our store. We have placed 2 pieces of tape on our floor, measuring a distance of approximately 60 feet. When a low-arched or flat-footed person walks this distance in socks, it may take 22-25 steps to walk that distance. When they walk the same distance in shoes and orthotics for low-arched feet, they normally walk the same distance in 20-23 paces.

Arch support and the proper shoe selection shoes can make walking with low-arched feet more enjoyable and less painful. The right arch support can stabilize the arch and prevent the heel from rolling outward. We recommend Aetrex Lynco and 10 Second Flat Foot orthotics for low-arched and flat feet. Motion control shoes provide extra support and stability, thus preventing the foot from collapsing inward. Aetrex, Brooks, Somnio and Ryn all have shoes with excellent stability and control for people with low-arched and flat feet. Aetrex and Brooks shoes have excellent motion control and a slight medial (inside) build-up to prevent over-pronation. The Somnio Self control shoe has 3 different degrees of "varus wedges" to prevent over-pronation and the Ryn shoes offer the best stability for rocker-sole shoes. All of these shoes have added depth to accept arch supports or custom orthotics, if needed.

Athletes and Celebrities Love Ryn Shoes at Lake Tahoe Golf Tournament

Ryn Footwear USA was invited to set up a 10 x 20 booth at the American Century Celebrity Golf Tournament being held this week in beautiful Lake Tahoe. Dozens of celebrities and athletes have stopped by the booth and picked up a pair of Ryn shoes at the celebrity "gifting" tent.

I spoke with Rocco Azzarito, CEO of Ryn Footwear USA and his son Aaron. The response to the Ryn shoes has been beyond enthusiastic. Aaron Rodgers, a top-rated quarterback for the Green Bay Packers put on his Ryn's and refused to take them off, remarking that they felt awesome. Alfonso Ribiero, who played Carleton on the "Fresh Prince of Bel Air" tried on Aaron Azzarito's Ryn shoes and refused to give them back. Several other celebrities tried on the Ryn shoes and loved them, including Jerry Rice, singer Michael Bolton, Digger Phelps, Herm Edwards, Fred McGriff, Steve Spurrier, Ozzie Smith, Joe Theisman, AJ Hawk, Troy Aikman, Jason Kidd, and many others.

Rocco mentioned that the response to the Ryn shoes exceeded their expectations. The celebrities were extremely friendly and were very impressed with the feeling of the Ryn shoes they received. Several of them were seen walking around the Lake Tahoe venue in their new shoes, and a few returned back to the booth to express their thanks to Ryn for being at the event.
